Weather Conditions In The Mountain Regions Of Scotland Are At Best Unpredictable And Can Be Extreme At Times. It Is Therefore Essential That Any Member Participating In Any Activity Is Properly Equipped. Following, As A Guide, Is A List Of The Minimum Equipment Needed For Mountain Walking In Scotland. 


SUMMER

  1. A Good Ruck-Sac (Minimum Size 20 Ltr)

  2. Good Sturdy Walking Boots With Suitable Ankle Support

  3. Good Comfortable Walking Socks

  4. Suitable Walking Trousers (Not Jeans, Cords Etc)

  5. Several Walking Tops, Both Short And Long Sleeved (Several Layers Are Better Than A Single Thick Layer)

  6. Waterproof Jacket / Trousers

  7. Water (Minimum Of 1 Litre)

  8. Food (High Energy Snack Bars Are Best, Plus A Suitable Lunch)

  9. Hat & Gloves

  10. Whistle & Torch (& Spare Batteries)

  11. Map And Compass ( And Have Basic Skills To Use Them)

  12. Survival Bag Or Blanket

  13. First Aid Kit Within The Group

  14. Sunglasses And Suncream


WINTER

(As For Summer, Plus)

  1. Walking Boots Suitable For Winter Walking (Ie. Firm Soled For Crampons)

  2. Thick Fleece / Windstopper Jacket

  3. Waterproof Gloves

  4. Spare Hat And Gloves

  5. Spare Food

  6. Hot Flask

  7. Ice Axe & Crampons (no spikes or yaktrax)

  8. Goggles

WEEKENDS

If The Club Stays In Youth Hostel Accommodation, There Will Be No Need To Bring Sleeping Bags Or Cooking Equipment. However, We May Stay In Basic Style Accommodation Including Mountain Huts, Bothies Or Campsites. Additional Items May Include;

  1. Sleeping Bag & Roll Mat/Thermorest

  2. Tent (If Camping)

  3. Cooking Stove & Equipment (If Camping)

  4. Food For Breakfasts, Lunch & Dinner For All Days

  5. Wash Kit & Towel

  6. Spare Clothes /Footwear

The Above Lists Are Not Exhaustive And Anyone Wishing To Bring Additional Equipment May Do So. However, If You Are Not Properly Equipped For The Activity You Wish To Participate In Then You Will Not Be Permitted To Attend.
